Central Cabinet approved Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India, a Centrally Sponsored Scheme. This post will tell you all that you need to know about it! :)

Aim: To make New Education Policy (NEP) labs

It is being seen as a step in direction of circular structure and teaching as per NEP in four stages:
a) Foundational (play based learning at pre school + grade I and II)
b) Preparatory (light textbooks + some formal classroom teaching for grades III-V)
c) Middle (Subject teachers at grades VI-VIII)
d) Secondary (Multidisciplinary, no hard separation b/w arts and sciences or other disciplines from grades IX-XII)

Central Govt To Set Up 'PM Shri Schools' To Prepare Students For Future:  Education Minister

Different, How?

What's known till now:
- Superior Infrastructure (labs, smart class, libraries, sports equipment etc)
- Green Schools (water conservation, waste recycle, energy efficiency etc)
- PM-SHRI to mentor other schools in vicinity
- Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Focused modules
- Every PM-SHRI linked to Higher Education Institution for mentoring
- Internship w/ local artisans
- Pedagogy: experiential, holistic, integrated and play/toy based
- Environment: inquiry driven, discovery-oriented, learner-centered, discussion-based, flexible & enjoyable environment
- Focus: learning outcome in every grade
- Assessment: on conceptual understanding and real time application of knowledge

How?

- Upgrade of existing Centre, States, UTs and local bodies run schools
- i.e. can be an upgrade of KV, JNV, State or Municipality school(s)

(Note: KV/JNV u/ Central Sector Schemes. KV for children of central govt employees in states & JNV to nurture talent in states/UTs)

So, KV/JNV/Govt. school becomes PM-SHRI by default?

No!
- states will identify schools for upgradation
- subsequently, schools self-apply online
- Portal to apply open 4 times a year for first 2 years (once every quarter)

What happens after application?

- states/UTs to agree to NEP in its entirety to be included in scheme
- 60 parameters to be tested before approval (electricity to toilet)
- physical inspection

Where?

max 2 schools per block/ULB to be thus selected
