China is using a subatomic particle from Space to research on its ancient monuments.
Fun fact: this subatomic particle 'rains' from space! 🌌👽
It is called Muon and the technique used by China is called Muon Tomography or Muography
Muon Tomography or Muography
- Uses Muons to generate 3D images of large structures
- Muons penetrate up to 100s of meters inside stone surfaces
- Helps in finding small density anomalies (potential hazard)
Where has it been used earlier? 👇🏼
~ Pyramids of Giza
~ Fukushima Nuclear Reactors
~ Mt. Vesuvius (Italian Volcano)

About Muons
- Subatomic particles raining down from space
- Created on collision of earth' atmosphere with cosmic rays*
- 10k muons reach every sq. m. of earth's surface every minute
- Resemble electrons but 207 times heavier
*Cosmic rays: clusters of high energy particles moving through space just below speed of light
