National Party, how?

- >6% VS in LS/Assembly in 4+ states & 4 MPs
- >2% LS seats (11 seats) from 3 states
- 'Recognized' State Party in 4+ states

State Party, HOW?

Mathematics to be a state party

- >6% VS in LS + >1 MPs
- >6% VS in assembly + >2 MLAs
- >8% valid votes in Assembly or LS election
- >3% seats or 3 seats in assembly (whichever more)
- 1 MP for 25 members (or other proportion allotted to state in LS)

How to remember State Party for #UPSC? (National is easy)

Break it in small blocks of: LS, Assembly, Combined (See infographic)

🔺LS
- >6% VS in LS + >1 MPs
- 1 MP for 25 members (or other proportion allotted to state in LS)

🔺Assembly
- >6% VS in assembly + >2 MLAs
- >3% seats or 3 seats in assembly (whichever more)

🔺Combined
- >8% of valid votes in Assembly or LS election

Perks of being a National Party

  • Election symbol will remain unchanged across India

  • Top slots on EVM/Ballot paper reserved for them

  • Receive land/building from government to establish party office

  • Gets free broadcast/telecast times on Akashvani & Doordashan during LS election

  • Can have max 40 star campaigners (travel expenses not in candidate accounts)

Common perks of National and State Party

  • Need only one proposer to fill nomination

  • Get 2 sets of electoral rolls free of cost at time of revision of rolls

  • Candidates can get copy of electoral roll free of cost during general elections

  • Privilege to consult EC in setting of election dates

  • Give inputs in setting electoral rules and regulations
