Cyclone🌀
- Intense vortex/whirls in atmosphere with very strong winds.
- Clockwise in Southern Hemisphere, Anti Clockwise in Northern Hemisphere
Cloudburst🌧️
- 100mm per hour rainfall over a localised area
- accompanies with strong winds and lightning
Snowfall❄️
- Hydrological Hazard
- Large amount of snow affects transport, crops and people
Cold waves🥶
a) Cold day
- Maximum temperature drops by 4.5°C to 6.4°C
- If drop in maximum is >6.4°C, it is severe cold day
b) Cold Wave
- Minimum temperature drops by 4.5°C to 6.4°C
- If drop in minimum is >6.4°C, it is severe cold wave
Heatwaves 🥵
- Heatwave: Maximum temperature departure by 4.5°C to 6.4°C
- Severe Heatwave: >6.4°C departure from maximum
Heavy rains, floods and landslides🌊
- Heavy rain: 64.5-115.5 mm rain in 24 hours
- Very heavy rain: >115.5mm in 24 hrs
- Extremely heavy rain: >204.5 mm in 24 hours
Lightning and storm⚡🌩️
- Lightning: electrical discharge due to imbalance between storm clouds and ground (or within clouds)
- Storm
a) Thunderstorm: A very strong wind
b) Dust storm: Thunderstorm + cyclones over wide area
c) Hailstorm: Thunderstorm + lumps of ice + rain
