Creating comprehensive catalogue of genetic diversity found in Indian population
• Why? To
a) Learn history of evolution
b) Creating therapies for future
c) Discovering genetic basis for diseases

Currently, we use int'l data for above purposes

Indian genomes are diff from all other..
• A Viksit nation can't afford to live on borrowed data
• Compare genetic variations impact on health

• Sort of a code w/ A,T,G,C to code 'DNA'
• To give all information to create physical form of life
• It's all from height to color of skin, hair type & color to design of body; everything
Why's it needed?
3 Prime reasons:
1. Identify the genetic risks factors for various ailments
2. Design targeted treatment for rare diseases
3. Identify resistance indicating variants
Did you know? It costs billions of dollars
So, what's the result of this expenditure?
Result:
• 10k+ genomes sequenced
• Data to develop therapies, cure rare diseases etc.
• 8 Petabytes of data to be stored at Indian Biological Data Centre in Faridabad, Haryana
