#164: My hero KALAM, reborn!

I must have been 9 years old when this happened.

The day is still bright in my memory. Why, you ask?

My city was abuzz awaiting a visitor. A popular one? Maybe

But surely, a people’s visitor.

An important one. KALAM

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former President

Did I meet him?

He was visiting the convocation of a reputed institute

Dr. Kalam was an ex-first citizen of India by now. Despite being out of office, he was still the President.

People's President

The city was decorated for India's most loved Teacher. City was excited

July 27 2015, the man with long hair left the world doing what he loves to do the most: Teaching

Today, when I look back and think, Kalam was not just a man but a phenomenon

He was the greatest Indian of the century

How, you wonder?

Think of it💡

A man who was instrumental in taking Indian research to the next level.

At a time when we are surrounded by adversaries;

Our youth prepares for #UPSC in peace,

Our democracy survives the test of time,

Our startups are innovating at rocket speed,

Our homes do not have bunkers to escape missiles,

Our farmers are in the farms ensuring food security

How? SECURITY

Security that comes with innovation of our missiles

Security that comes with ownership of nuclear weapons

Security that comes with brightest of our minds choosing to stay back & build in India

Our scientists are landing on moon, aiming for sun and winning the space

HOW? CULTURE.

Culture that supports frugal innovation

Culture that supports ambition with infrastructure

Culture that supports security of career for builders of future

How did that happen?

Go back to 'Laughing Buddha', the first ever nuclear test

Go back to missile development programmes

Go back to India's moon mission

Go back to ISRO

Connect the dots and you will go back to Kalam

Rarely does it happen that one individual can impact geopolitics without being an active participant

Pakistan fears eradication from the world map

China understands plot of Shanghai

because of a man who refused to give up.

This post is not just to remind you of our former President but help you see how men become legends

A legend that we all shall learn about and learn from!

Kalam.

A man of the masses.

A saint who came from Rameshawaram to take Bharat global

A scientist who held highest office and yet remained apolitical

Kalam.

A teacher who lives beyond his death

A human who inspires beyond his lifetime

Kalam.

Someone who deserves to be immortalized.

Imagine, just as Musk immortalized Nicolas Tesla with the name on his car.

Who’s gonna celebrate the greats of India with immortal products?

We, the people of India, would!

Let me introduce you to Kalam, once again.

This Kalam is a personal mentor only for UPSC aspirants.
