Technology Mission on Oilseeds, Pulses, and Maize (TMOPM) (1986)

• To increase the production of oilseeds, pulses, and maize to reduce the country’s dependence on imports of edible oils and meet the growing demand for food.

• 4 main objectives:

  • Increase production % productivity of oilseeds, pulses, maize by modern technologies & better farm practices.

  • Availability of quality seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides to farmers at affordable prices.

  • Develop post-harvest technologies to reduce losses and increase shelf life of produce.

  • Promote R&D in oilseeds, pulses, maize to improve their quality & yield.

• Schemes under the program:

  • Oilseeds Production Program

  • National Pulses Development Project

  • Accelerated Maize Development Program

  • Post-Harvest Technology

  • Oil Palm Development Program

  • National Oilseeds and Vegetable Oil Development Board

National Mission on Oilseeds & Oil Palm (1986)

• National Oilseeds Mission - 1986

• Restructured as National Mission on Oilseeds and Oil Palm (NMOOP) in 2014 

• Major objectives:

  1. Increase oilseed production to reduce dependence on import of oilseeds

  2. Increase productivity of oilseeds - Modern technologies, better farm practices, HYV seeds

  3. Post-harvest tech to increase shelf life

  4. R&D in Oilseeds & Oil Palm

• Strategy includes:

  1.  Increasing Seed Replacement Ratio 

  2. Increasing irrigation coverage

  3. Diversification of area from low-yielding cereals

  4. Intercropping; use of fallow land

  5. Expansion of cultivation in watersheds & wastelands

  6. Increasing availability of quality planting materials

  7. Enhancing procurement of oilseeds and collection and processing of TBOs

National Mission on Sustainable Agriculture (2010)

• Started with aim of promoting sustainable agri practices & increasing climate resilience of agri

• Major objectives:

  1. Increase productivity of crops while ensuring sustainability of natural resources.

  2. Promote climate-resilient agriculture practices

  3. Promote soil health management -By  Integrated nutrient management, organic farming, conservation agriculture practices.

  4. Value chains for agri products -> Increase farmer’s income

• Schemes under NMSA

  1. Rainfed Area Development (RAD)

  2. Soil Health Management (SHM)

  3. Sub Mission on Agro-Forestry (SMAF)

  4. Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY)

  5. Soil and Land Use Survey of India (SLUSI)

  6. National Rainfed Area Authority (NRAA)

  7. Mission Organic Value Chain Development in North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER)

  8. National Centre of Organic Farming (NCOF)

  9. Central Fertilizer Quality Control and Training Institute (CFQC&TI)

National Livestock Mission (2014)

• 4 major components:

  1. Livestock development - Promote adoption of modern tech for rearing, breeding, and disease control + better quality fodder

  2. Livestock health -  Vaccination, disease surveillance and control measures, Veterinary hospitals and clinics

  3. Capacity building - Train farmers and livestock service providers in livestock management practices, veterinary care, and entrepreneurship.

  4. Market Access to livestock Farmers

Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (2014)

• Major objectives

  1. Increase horticulture production & productivity

  2. Promote crop diversification

  3. Promote post-harvest management and value addition

  4. Increase export of horticulture produce.

  5. Market infrastructure development for horticulture

  6. Capacity building & entrepreneurship

• Schemes under MIDH

  1. National Horticulture Mission

  2. Horticulture Mission for North East & Himalayan States

  3. National Bamboo Mission

  4. National Horticulture Board

  5. Coconut Development Board

  6. Central Institute for Horticulture, Nagaland

National Mission on Food Processing (NMFP) (2014)

• Promote food processing (FP) industry

• Major objectives:

  • Enhance value addition to agricultural and horticultural produce

  • Employment opportunities in FP sector

  • Develop modern FP infrastructure

  • Promote R&D in the FP for better quality food.

  • Promote exports of processed food items.

Technology Mission on Cotton (2000)

• For sustainable & profitable cotton cultivation.

• Major objectives:

  • Greater productivity & profitability of cotton cultivation.

  • Adoption of sustainable cultivation practices

  • R&D in cotton sector

  • Capacity building & training of farmers

• Missions under this:

  • Cotton Research and Technology Generation;

  • Transfer of Technology and Development;

  • Development of Market Infrastructure;

  • Modernization / Setting up of new G&P factories

Jute Technology Mission (2015)

• Develop Jute sector

• The main objectives of the mission are to:

  • Greater productivity & better quality jute products

  • R&D in jute sector

  • Capacity building & entrepreneurship

  • Use of jute as an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic materials.

Technology Mission on Coconut (2014)

• Sustainable & profitable coconut cultivation

• Major objectives:

  • Increase the productivity and profitability of coconut cultivation.

  • Adoption of sustainable coconut cultivation practices.

  • R&D in coconut sector

  • Capacity building & entrepreneurship.
