The jobs in uniform are an exciting opportunity for any individual looking to make a mark in serving the country.
Looking at my efforts on curating lists of alt career options, @Dkyadav95 reached out to share his knowledge on Jobs on Uniform. He himself cracked UES with Indian Navy. While he did not join, he’s now on a mission to help other aspirants live their dream of jobs in uniform.
This list is curated by him.

1. Army🪖
a) UPSC NDA
- UPSC exam for 16.5-19.5 age (10+2 needed)
- Physics & Maths in 12th needed for Airforce and Navy
- Open to men and women (unmarried)
b) UPSC CDS
- UPSC exam for 19-24 age (IMA/AFA/NA) and 19-25 for OTA
- Graduation in any stream required
- Open to men and women (unmarried)
c) 10+2 TES
- No written exam, 16.5-19.5 age
- PCM w/ JEE (Main) appeared
- Shortlisting for SSB interview based on 10+2 marks and JEE (Mains) score
d) SSC NCC Special Entry
- No written, graduate with 50% aggregate
- Short Service for 19-25 unmarried
e) Technical Graduate Course
- No written, only BE/B.Tech
- 21-27 age for unmarried candidates
- Quicker Promotion to Captain Rank
[Great opportunity for engineers]
f) SSC Tech (similar to TGC, Short service)
g) SSC Judge Advocate General
- For Law graduates to be a lawyer in army
- 21-27 age, unmarried, both men and women
h) Territorial Army (TA)
- Part time for 18-42 age male only
- Civil working professional can also serve along with their main profession
- Minister Anurag Thakur, Sachin Pilot, MS Dhoni etc are officers in TA
2. Air Force 🛦
a) UPSC NDA/CDS [details above]
b) AFCAT: Graduation with Physics & Maths in 10+2
3. Navy ⚓
a) UPSC NDA/CDS [details above]
b) Navy conducts various entries for Graduates w/ Physics & Maths in +2
c) University Entry Scheme: Only final year graduates can apply
4. Indian Coast Guard
- Notification 2x a year
- Eligibility similar to CDS
Imp pointers:
• SSB selection system and medica follows every exam
• SSB is 5-7 days dynamic selection/interview system
• Doctors applying for Army Medical Corps exempted from SSB but need to appear in Personal Interview
5. Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF)
a) Officers:
- UPSC CAPF Asst. Comm. Exam
- Age: 20-25 (age relaxation as per reservation norms)
- Open to both men and women
b) Inspectors: SSC CPO Exam
c) Constables: SSC GD exam (Respective CAPFs also conduct exam)
6. State Police
Different state police keeps offering job opportunities in different positions from Constable to Inspector. Keep an eye on your state notifications, if this field interests you.
